Leaves of scarlet oak are recognized by their deep and wide
sinuses and relatively narrow lobes. They are lustrous, with a bright yellow
midrib. Scarlet oak belongs to the subgenus of red oaks, and its leaves
with sharply pointed, bristled lobes tell us about this affiliation.
