Seaside spurge belongs to subg. Chamaesyce, which is sometimes considered a separate genus. In this
group, plants are usually prostrate, their leaves asymmetrical.
The branching becomes dichotomous. Cyathia in seaside spurge are solitary,
their involucres less than 1.5 mm in diameter.
